Providing Oxygen for your Body

Grades 6-9

By constructing a functioning model lung, determining their own lung
volume, and examining actual lung specimens, students will become
familiar with the basic structure and function of the respiratory
system. Students apply the scientific method by analyzing the effect
of a factor (height, gender, physical activity, or exposure to smoke)
on the lung volume of the class members. Students explore the
relationship between volume and surface area and how this concept
effects the structure and function of the lung.
