Providing Nutrients for your Body

Grades 6-9

Through building a life-size model, investigating the role of enzymes, and
examining actual specimens, students visualize the process of digestion
and become familiar with the organs involved in transforming the food
they eat into the energy their cells need to function. Students apply
the scientific method by determining the location in the digestive
system where the digestion of starch occurs. Students explore the role
of detergents such as bile salts in the digestion of fats.
